Unit history

They first served at Yorktown, Virginia, until the Spring of 1862. They then saw action during Federal General McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, notably at Seven Pines, VA.

On the Sharpsburg Campaign

They were engaged with light losses at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September, then with heavy losses in Miller's Cornfield and the East Woods and later in the Sunken Road at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. The Regiment lost its flag at Sharpsburg.

Company A was detailed away from the regiment as part of an independent battalion of Colquitt's Brigade commanded by Captain Arnold of the 6th Georgia: they fought on the south flank of the brigade at Turner's Gap and in the West Woods at Sharpspurg.

After the Sharpsburg Campaign

The regiment continued in service with the Army of Northern Virginia at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Petersburg, and on to Appomattox.
