Before Antietam
From Prescott, he enlisted in Company B, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 19 October 1861. Promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, and First Sergeant.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Wounded again at Cold Harbor, VA in 1864. Promoted to First Lieutenant on 27 June 1864 and Captain on 19 October 1864.
