Before Sharpsburg
A 23 year old farmer in Pitt County, he enlisted and mustered at Greenville as Private, Company H, 27th North Carolina Infantry on 20 April 1861. He was appointed 4th Corporal on 6 (or 15) September 1861 and 4th Sergeant by March 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
