Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as Private in Company C, 12th South Carolina Infantry in September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 22 October but died there on 28 October 1862. He was originally buried "on west side of and in the [Mt. Olivet] cemetery at Frederick" but probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
