Before Sharpsburg

Age 21, he enlisted at Sumter, SC on 8 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry on 23 May in Richmond, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Manchester, VA hospital on 27 September and furloughed home. He was in Richmond, VA hospitals with "debility" and chronic bronchitis May - July 1863. He was deemed "unfit for field service" and detailed to the CS Quartermaster's Department at Columbia, SC on 2 March 1864. He was listed on his company's muster roll for May and June 1864 as "died in prison, date not known" with no later military record.
