Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer at Big Flats, Chemung County, NY. He enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company G, 23rd New York Infantry on 16 May 1861 in Elmira, NY to serve two years.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam, date not given, but probably on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 27 September and sent on to Philadelphia on 30 September. He was discharged for disability at the Convalescent Camp in Alexandria, VA on 16 January 1863. He enlisted again, as a Private in Company B, First New York Veteran Cavalry on 20 July 1863 at Elmira and mustered out with them on 20 July 1865 at Camp Platt, WV.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1910 he farmed at Van Etten, Chemung County, NY.
