Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 49th Virginia Infantry on 26 March 1862 on the Rapidan River ("Rapid Ann") in Northern Virginia.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
