Before Sharpsburg
A 19 year old student at Lowndesville, Abbeville District, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 27 September and sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore. He was at Fortress Monroe, VA on 13 October 1862 for exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond and furloughed in March 1863. He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his left foot on the North Anna River, VA on 23 May 1864. He was wounded yet again, mortally, at Berryville, VA on 3 September 1864 and died the next day.
