Age 36, he enlisted at McAlvey's Fort, PA on 17 August 1861, and mustered as Private, Company B, 49th Pennsylvania Infantry on 31 August in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the left foot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His foot was amputated and he was discharged for disability on 6 February 1863.
