Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at San Antonio, TX as a Private in Company F, 4th Texas Infantry on 23 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sick at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September, but was with his Company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He was ill for much of 1863 and was furloughed to Chocktaw, MS for 40 days in June and July. He was severely wounded in the arm and chest on 10 June 1864 at Cold Harbor, VA, and his arm was amputated. He was in hospitals in Richmond to 22 July 1864, then was furloughed to Mississippi.
