An unmarried 22 year old, he enlisted in Company C, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 1 April 1862 in Adams Run, SC.

On the Campaign

He was captured 12 September 1862 at Frederick, MD.

The rest of the War

Held at Fort Delaware, he was sent to Aikens Landing, VA and exchanged on 2 October 1862. He was at the General Hospital #23, Richmond, VA with phthisis pulmonalis and great debility from tubercular pneumonia in February 1863, and was medically discharged 28 February 1863, his doctor noting "I do not believe this soldier will survive two months."

After the War

He lived to at least 1902.
